Simpson & Williams Ltd  Christchurch, 1943 1st edn, 8vo, illust, 255pp, 42 illustrations. D/J.   An autobiography embracing fifty years of early New Zealand fishing and outdoor pursuits. G E Mannering set out his life in book form when he was 81 years old---hence the title. Of his career in banking he is almost reticent, but his description of Canterbury in the last third of the 1800s is exemplary as are his observations on the various towns and cities where he was stationed. However, his sporting recollections are among the most interesting, as these cover riding, hunting, mountaineering, canoeing and 50 years of mainly fresh-water fishing. Rare with D/J.  The D/J has a removable protective plastic cover and several sections missing from the edges and some sunning to the spine. - Fine.
