book is divided into three parts: Part I: Dry-Fly Fishing where he discusses
rod and tackle, casting, ethics,patterns, favourable and unfavourable
conditions,the psychological moment, dry fly on lakes and lochs and striking
and handlind fish.. Part II: The Fisherman's Entomology. covers Mayflies,
caddis, stoneflies, alders and smuts. Part III: The Making and Management of a
Fishery. discusses selection of the water, general management, weeds and
weedcutting, killing the trouts enemies and stocking. This was Halford's last book and his credo of
the preeminence of the Dry Fly, fished up-stream, is fully developed.
