Two thirds of the one hundred thousand workers were immigrants, newly arrived from war weary Europe.   Under the leadership of Commissioner Bill Hudson, this disparate workforce became a skilled and united team that set world records in hardrock drilling, earthmoving and industrial harmony.   Despite the isolation and loneliness a feeling of mateship and achievement grew up amongst the workers and their families that survives to this day.  Based on many hundreds of interviews and supported by 300 photographs this is their story.  -Very Fine
